Bella Vista Approves Major Capital Investments for Fire and Police Departments
Bella Vista is making substantial investments in public safety over the next five years, with a combined total of over $14 million in capital requests for the Fire and Police Departments. These expenditures aim to equip first responders with advanced tools and infrastructure to meet the needs of the growing community.
Fire Department: Enhancing Response and Infrastructure
The Bella Vista Fire Department leads the city’s capital spending with over $11 million allocated through 2029. Key highlights include:
Ladder Fire Truck and Replacements: $2 million is allocated for a ladder fire truck for a new station, while an additional $2.2 million will fund the replacement of two fire trucks, both supported by bond reissuance.
New Fire Stations: The city plans to invest $3.5 million for Fire Station #5 in the South Central area, along with $162,000 to secure land for Fire Station #6 in the Highlands region.
Fire Station #1 Remodel: $600,000 is allocated for planning and development, with an additional $800,000 for expanding the engine bays, bringing the total remodel budget to $1.2 million.
Vehicle and Equipment Upgrades: The department will also invest in ambulance remounts ($601,233), bunker gear for firefighters, and $100,000 for moving and upgrading radio equipment.
Police Department: Strengthening Safety and Accountability
The Bella Vista Police Department has outlined over $3.3 million in capital expenditures through 2029, focusing on vehicle upgrades and modernized equipment:
Replacement Vehicles: The city will spend $2.2 million to replace police vehicles, ensuring officers have reliable transportation.
Body and In-Car Cameras: A $785,000 investment will enhance transparency and accountability in law enforcement operations.
Search-and-Rescue Drone: The addition of a $9,000 drone will aid officers in emergency situations, such as locating missing persons or assessing dangerous areas.
Special Response Building Improvements: $200,000 is earmarked for enhancing facilities used in specialized operations.
