Bella Vista Declares 2024 Extra Mile Day to Celebrate Community Contributions
On November 1, 2024, Bella Vista will join hundreds of cities across the United States in celebrating Extra Mile Day, an initiative that honors individuals and organizations who go above and beyond to make their communities a better place. Mayor John Flynn officially proclaimed the observance during the recent City Council work session, emphasizing the importance of recognizing those whose selfless efforts improve the lives of others.
Celebrating Community Spirit
“Extra Mile Day is about shining a spotlight on the incredible people in our community who step up to serve others without seeking recognition,” Mayor Flynn said. “Their dedication to giving back strengthens the fabric of Bella Vista and inspires us all to do more.”
The proclamation underscores the vital role of community service and volunteerism in fostering a thriving city. Whether through neighborhood improvement projects, mentoring youth, supporting local nonprofits, or offering a helping hand to those in need, these efforts make a tangible impact on Bella Vista’s quality of life.
A National Movement
Founded in 2009 by motivational speaker Shawn Anderson, Extra Mile Day began as a way to encourage individuals to take positive action in their personal lives and communities. Since its inception, the initiative has grown to include over 500 cities, each recognizing the power of going the extra mile.
Bella Vista’s participation reflects the city’s commitment to valuing the contributions of its residents and encouraging a culture of kindness and community engagement.
Honoring Everyday Heroes
Mayor Flynn’s proclamation is a call to action for all residents to not only acknowledge the efforts of those who go the extra mile but to consider how they too can contribute. “It’s a reminder that even small acts of kindness can have a ripple effect,” Flynn said. “Together, we can create a stronger, more connected Bella Vista.”
