Rogers Secures $15 Million in Insurance Reimbursements for Tornado Damage Repairs
The City of Rogers is set to amend its 2024 budget to recognize over $15 million in insurance reimbursements following tornado damage from a storm on May 25, 2024. The funds will be used to repair and rebuild several municipal buildings damaged during the natural disaster.
According to the resolution, which will be presented at the September 24, 2024 City Council meeting, the city received $15,044,556.42 in insurance payouts from the Cincinnati Insurance Company. These funds will be allocated to Account #349-49-74788.320, designated for Buildings and Grounds Repairs.
"The May tornado caused significant damage to several of our city facilities, and we’ve been working hard to get the necessary resources to begin the rebuilding process," said Rogers Mayor C. Greg Hines. "This insurance money will ensure that we can make the needed repairs and move forward with our recovery."
The funds will be distributed to various projects throughout the city as the rebuilding process begins. Prioritized repairs will likely focus on key public buildings to restore services to full capacity as quickly as possible. The exact timeline for the use of these funds is expected to be outlined following the passage of the resolution.
The Finance Committee is overseeing the amendment to the budget and is expected to approve the appropriation before sending it to the City Council for final approval. This development represents a significant step toward Rogers’ recovery from the devastating storm, marking a return to normalcy for residents affected by the damage.
Once repairs are completed, the city hopes to be better prepared for future disasters, with new structures and systems in place to mitigate the impact of similar events.
