Planning Commission Reviews and Decisions

Rogers, AR – The Rogers Planning Commission recently held a session to review and make pivotal decisions on several large-scale development proposals. The outcomes of these reviews are set to significantly impact local industrial and commercial growth.

Key projects under consideration included the Easy Street Flex Space and the Golf Cart Business Parking Lot, as well as the rezoning request for Barrington Place.

Easy Street Flex Space: The Planning Commission reviewed the proposal for a 66,748 square-foot warehouse office building at 1209 W. Easy Street. The project, situated in the I-2 (Heavy Industrial) zoning district, aims to expand the industrial capacity of Rogers. The proposal received a favorable recommendation, highlighting its alignment with the city's Comprehensive Growth Map and its potential to create substantial industrial activity and employment opportunities.

Golf Cart Business Parking Lot: Another significant project was the proposal to construct a compact parking lot with 133 spaces for selling golf carts at the junction of N. 4th Street and W. Hudson Road. This development, located in the C-2 (Highway Commercial) zoning district, is part of a broader commercial expansion aimed at boosting local businesses. The Planning Commission recommended approval, emphasizing the project’s compliance with access management standards and its potential to enhance commercial activities.

Rezoning Request for Barrington Place: A contentious issue on the agenda was the rezoning request for Barrington Place. The proposal sought to rezone a 20.16-acre parcel at 876 S. Dodson Road and two additional parcels totaling 22.71 acres from the A-1 (Agricultural) zoning district to the RMF-12 (Residential Multi-Family, 12 units per acre) zoning district. Despite opposition from adjacent neighbors, the Planning Commission recommended postponing the decision to allow for further review and community input.

The session also included updates and reports from staff and commissioners, covering various ongoing and upcoming projects. The Planning Commission's decisions reflect a commitment to balanced growth, ensuring that new developments align with the city's strategic vision while addressing community concerns.

As Rogers continues to grow, the Planning Commission plays a crucial role in shaping the city’s landscape, balancing industrial, commercial, and residential needs to foster a thriving community.
