Public Right-of-Way Waiver Sparks Debate Over SW G Street Accessibility
Bentonville, AR — A proposed waiver for the dedication of public right-of-way along SW G Street between Central Avenue and SW 2nd Street has raised questions about the balance between private development and public infrastructure.
The waiver, submitted to the Bentonville Planning Commission, would exempt the area from becoming a public right-of-way, potentially impacting future connectivity in the rapidly growing downtown corridor. While the proposal could streamline a private development project, some residents and city officials worry about long-term implications for pedestrian and vehicle access.
“SW G Street is a key link between Central Avenue and nearby neighborhoods,” said Planning Commissioner Doug Bryant. “Waiving the public right-of-way could limit future opportunities to improve mobility in this part of the city.”
The city’s decision will likely set a precedent for how public access is managed in mixed-use developments.
