Bentonville Approves Purchase of 12 New Police Vehicles

BENTONVILLE, AR – The Bentonville City Council has approved the purchase of twelve new police vehicles for the Bentonville Police Department, authorizing an agreement with Superior Automotive Group. The purchase, totaling $950,041.88, will be made with a waiver of the competitive bidding process, ensuring the department acquires the necessary fleet upgrades without delay.

The ordinance allows the city to buy twelve Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicles (PPV) with upfitting, ensuring they are fully equipped for law enforcement operations. Five of the vehicles are 2024 models purchased at a discounted rate below 2025 state bid pricing, while the remaining vehicles are acquired at or below the 2025 state bid pricing.

By securing the vehicles through Superior Automotive Group, the city benefits from extended warranties, as the "warranty in-service date" begins upon delivery of the fully equipped vehicles rather than at purchase. This approach is expected to maximize the lifespan and efficiency of the new fleet additions.

An emergency clause was included in the ordinance, expediting the process to ensure the police department can put the vehicles into service as soon as possible. No budget adjustment was needed for the purchase, as it was already accounted for in the city's financial planning.

The decision highlights the city's commitment to maintaining a modern and well-equipped police force, ensuring officers have the necessary resources to serve and protect Bentonville efficiently.

The purchase will be finalized following approval at the February 11, 2025, City Council meeting.
