Trail Usage Drops Over Winter Months, But Yearly Numbers Show Growth

ROGERS, AR – Trail usage in Rogers saw a seasonal dip in November and December, according to the latest data from the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. However, despite the slowdown, overall year-over-year numbers remain strong, signaling continued growth in the city’s outdoor recreation scene.

In November 2024, total trail usage reached 51,135, a 34% drop from October, though only 6% lower than last year. The most popular trail segment was Lake Atalanta, logging 15,106 users. The busiest day of the month was Sunday, November 10.

December saw another 24% decline, with 38,879 total users, but usage remained 6% higher than in December 2023. Lake Atalanta again led the way with 10,565 visitors, and the most active day was Sunday, December 29.

The biggest outlier in the data came from the Railyard Bike Park, which saw a massive 366% spike in usage in November, totaling 39,709 trips—a significant increase from last year. However, December saw a sharp 56% decline, likely due to colder temperatures.

City officials say these fluctuations are expected as winter weather sets in but anticipate a resurgence in trail usage once spring arrives. Recent trail improvements, including new signage, speed limit enforcement, and trail counter installations at Cambridge Park and Mt. Hebron, are part of an ongoing effort to enhance user experience and encourage more community engagement with Rogers’ outdoor spaces.
