Rogers Moves Forward with Uptown Connectivity Phase 2 to Enhance Traffic Flow
The City of Rogers is making significant strides in improving traffic flow in the Uptown area with the continuation of the Uptown Connectivity Phase 2 project. This initiative, set to be completed by September 2024, aims to alleviate congestion and streamline transportation through the strategic use of small roundabouts and infrastructure upgrades.
Project Goals:
Traffic Improvement: The primary goal is to enhance traffic movement along the Uptown perimeter. This will be achieved by implementing small roundabouts that help in reducing traffic bottlenecks and improving overall flow.
Roundabout Upgrade: The project also includes improvements to the existing roundabout at Pauline Whitaker Parkway, which is a critical junction for the area.
Current Status:
Ongoing Construction: The Northgate Roundabout is currently under construction, marking a significant step in the project’s progression.
Sewer Improvements: Rogers Water Utilities (RWU) is scheduled to start sewer improvements on S Champions Drive by late September 2023, ensuring that the area’s infrastructure can support the increased traffic capacity.
Action Items:
Road Extensions: The project team is working on adding the Highland Knolls Road extension to South Champions Drive, which will be integrated into the current contract.
Roundabout Construction: The west side of the Northgate Roundabout is tentatively scheduled to begin, although the exact start date remains to be determined.
Challenges and Delays:
Weather and Utilities: The project has faced delays due to adverse weather conditions, utility relocations, and errors in the original plans.
Re-bidding: The need to re-bid parts of the project has also caused delays, but efforts are underway to expedite the remaining tasks.
Design Adjustments: There have been delays due to the redesign of the Champions and Northgate roundabouts, along with the implementation of a road diet, which aims to reduce road width to improve safety and traffic flow.
Funding:
The project is funded through a transportation bond, ensuring that it has the financial backing necessary to see it through to completion.
Looking Ahead:
The Uptown Connectivity Phase 2 project is expected to play a crucial role in supporting the growing infrastructure needs of Rogers. As the city continues to expand, these improvements will help manage the increasing traffic and contribute to the area’s overall development.
Project Management:
The project is being overseen by Jaime Kemp, with consultation from CTA and CHC serving as the contractor.
Residents and businesses in the Uptown area can expect continued progress on this critical infrastructure project, which promises to improve daily commutes and enhance the overall functionality of the city’s roadways.
