Rogers City Employees to Receive Additional Compensation Amid Budget Adjustments

At the upcoming September 24, 2024 Rogers City Council meeting, a proposed resolution aims to amend the 2024 city budget to provide additional compensation for city employees, demonstrating the city’s appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

The resolution, introduced by Mayor C. Greg Hines, will authorize a one-time payment of $300 to all current employees who have been with the city as of October 27, 2024. The total amount allocated for this initiative is $217,170, which will be drawn from the general, street, and airport reserves.

Mayor Hines emphasized the importance of acknowledging the hard work of city staff. "Our employees have been instrumental in the economic and social advancement of Rogers," he said. "It’s only right that we reward their dedication, especially given the challenges we've faced over the past year."

This resolution includes appropriations for the associated costs, such as FICA expenses and retirement contributions. These will be distributed across various departments, with the general fund contributing $203,889, the street fund $11,436, and the airport fund $1,845.

The Finance Committee, which will discuss the resolution prior to the council meeting, is expected to recommend its approval. Supporters argue that investing in employee satisfaction is crucial for maintaining high standards of public service and ensuring the city’s continued growth.

If approved, the one-time bonuses will provide a boost for city workers just in time for the holiday season. However, it will also be essential to monitor how this impacts the reserves of the various funds in the long term.
