Bentonville Mayor Stephanie Orman Signs Agreement to Terminate Grant for Adult Wellness Center

Bentonville, AR – In a recent development, Bentonville Mayor Stephanie Orman received a letter from David Short, President of Bentonville Revitalization, Inc. (BRI), announcing the termination of a significant grant. The $1,260,262 grant, issued to the City of Bentonville on March 28, 2023, was intended to fund the design of a new Adult Wellness Center. Under the terms of the agreement, the grant will be terminated immediately, leaving $630,120 in unpaid funds with BRI. The termination does not reflect poorly on the City or its standing with BRI.

The initial excitement surrounding the grant was palpable when Bentonville received the first installment of $630,142 in April 2023. These funds were promptly utilized to kickstart the project, which aimed to enhance the city's commitment to health and wellness. However, unforeseen delays and other priorities have necessitated this mutual decision to terminate the grant, a move both parties deem necessary under the current circumstances.

The letter detailed the accounting of the grant funds, confirming that the initial installment had been fully expended while the remaining amounts had neither been received nor spent. By signing the letter, Mayor Orman officially acknowledged and agreed to the termination terms, ensuring transparency and maintaining the City's integrity in managing public funds.

Despite the setback, Mayor Orman expressed a renewed commitment to Bentonville's growth and wellness initiatives. She emphasized that the end of this grant does not mark the end of the city's aspirations. Bentonville will continue to pursue innovative projects and infrastructure improvements, reflecting the resilience and collective effort of the community.
