Bentonville Approves Waiver for The Benton Multi-Family Development

At the October 15, 2024, Planning Commission meeting, the city of Bentonville approved a waiver request for The Benton Multi-Family development, located on Southwest Parnell Drive. The project, filed under LSD24-0031, sought a waiver from the requirement for interior parking lot landscaping, specifically regarding the minimum number of trees planted within parking islands.

The city's landscaping regulations typically mandate a set number of trees within parking lots to enhance aesthetics, improve shade, and contribute to environmental sustainability. However, The Benton Multi-Family developers requested a reduction in these requirements due to space constraints and the specific layout of the development.

After reviewing the proposal, the Planning Commission approved the waiver, allowing the project to proceed with fewer tree plantings than originally required by the code. This decision facilitates the continued development of the multi-family housing complex, which aims to provide much-needed residential space in Bentonville’s growing housing market.

As Bentonville continues to expand, projects like The Benton Multi-Family are seen as crucial for meeting housing demand.
