Bentonville Approves Tree Canopy Assessment and Reforestation Plan

In an effort to preserve and restore Bentonville’s urban forest, the City Council has approved a $110,000 agreement with PlanIt Geo to conduct a comprehensive tree canopy assessment and create a reforestation plan. The project aims to restore areas impacted by the Memorial Day 2024 tornado, quantify the loss of tree canopy, and identify key areas for replanting.

The study will also support long-term sustainability goals for Bentonville’s urban forest, providing guidance for future tree planting efforts and canopy management. The initiative underscores the city’s commitment to environmental health, as trees play a crucial role in improving air quality, reducing energy costs, and enhancing community aesthetics.

This effort comes at a critical time for Bentonville, as rapid development and natural events have reduced tree coverage in some areas. The plan will guide the city in its goal to increase and maintain healthy, diverse tree cover.
