Bella Vista Introduces Grass Parking Permit to Alleviate Trailhead Congestion

In a recent city council session, Mayor John Flynn introduced a temporary amendment to Bella Vista's parking ordinance, aimed at addressing the overflow parking issue prevalent at the Tanyard Creek parking lot and surrounding areas. The new ordinance, brought forward by Council Members Fowler and Wozniak, responds to the needs of residents frustrated by the parking congestion caused by the popularity of the Tanyard Creek Trail on weekends.

The ordinance will allow parking on certain grassy areas currently prohibited under existing laws, specifically targeting residential zones to alleviate street congestion without disrupting the community's aesthetics or functionality. The city plans to issue permits for parking on these grass areas, with fees collected directed to the General Revenue. This measure is seen as a stop-gap until the Property Owners Association (POA) can construct additional parking facilities.

The council moved to expedite the ordinance's approval process due to the urgent need for parking solutions, with the ordinance passing a roll call vote despite concerns about potential abuse, particularly relating to short-term rental properties. The council and city staff will continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that the temporary solution does not become a permanent nuisance.
