Bella Vista Allocates $10,000 for Storm Cleanup After August Weather Event
Following severe thunderstorms that caused widespread damage in August, the Bella Vista City Council has amended the 2024 budget to allocate $10,000 for storm-related cleanup. The decision was made during the September 23, 2024, City Council meeting, ensuring the city can address tree and debris removal, especially on the west side, where the damage was most extensive.
The funds will be used to rent necessary equipment, including a telehandler, which will aid in clearing debris from the city’s challenging terrain. The Street Department, which manages the cleanup, highlighted that over 400 streets are in need of attention due to the storm's impact.
Street Superintendent Karen Hunt noted that the telehandler’s maneuverability and reach are crucial for navigating Bella Vista’s rights-of-way. The department is optimistic that the cleanup will progress efficiently with the additional resources, ensuring that the city can return to normal operations as quickly as possible.
City officials expressed gratitude to the Fire and Police Departments, which assisted during the storm, and emphasized the importance of being prepared for future weather events. The additional funding ensures that the necessary resources are available to meet the current challenges.
